Flight of the Navigator Pet Alien, the Puckmarin

Puckmarin DIORAMA
Form: Legs and Feet.

For the feet – leather strips of different thickness were twisted to create finger-like extremities. They were then stuffed into the bottom of where ankles would be on its legs/body.  Secured with glue, three independent strips were used for each digit.

Next, plant shaping wire was wrapped tightly around the bottom and “fingers” along with more leather to shape the form of paws with a grip similar to a talon of some kind.

Finally, latex with a drop of quick dry hardener was brush-poured to begin filling in grooves and giving it a more life form feel.

This last step will be repeated until arriving at the correct thickness and shape. Not only will this allow it to be malleable, it will also make it semi mendable in the event of the need for restoration.

Be on the lookout for the next stages, coming soon.

Thank you for stopping by.

The Force Awakens (Kylo Ren) – Star Wars Diorama

Star Wars The Force Awakens has crushed it at the box office! In honor of the celebrations and for the fans, I have created 2 more dioramas from the movie.

Kylo Ren Forrest Scene
This scene is him alone. It is the scene where he appears briefly in a dream sequence to Rey. It was also first seen in the trailers and some of the promotional posters.
The background has a blueish glow creating a cold temperatured ambience feel, while a red glow shine around the red light saber and bounces off the trees and ground.
The base is 12 X 12 and it stands at 18″ in height. The trees are actual real trees;  a mix of North Carolina Blue Spruce and regular evergreen tree tops only (christmas trees)!
The snow is polymer flakes, small enough to float in the air.
It was out together in stages to allow epoxies and sealants to dry, and took 2 weeks.
The figuirine is Disney high detail action figures bought directly from Disney merchandise stores.

Rey and BB-8 Scene on Jakku

This is a small piece, great for work or a desk topper.
Its base measures 5 X 7 and is a simple diorama. Foam and wood base, with figurines stuck on and color-matched fine powder sand to mimic the same type in the movie. No background, no surrounding accessories, just a clean sandy path.

Extra Photos of the pieces in progress:

Cloud City Carbonite Freezing Scene: Star Wars

2015-12-04 18.50.19

This diorama was inspired by the Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, scene where Han Solo is betrayed by an old friend, Lando who strikes a deal with Vader.

You can see Luke Skywalker in the duel from that scene, as well as Boba Fett guarding the carbonite-frozen Han Solo, as well as a few Stormtroopers in this work of art.  It is representational and I was going for the feel of the movie, rather than perfect accuracy.  It is my interpretation of this iconic scene.

Materials Used: Wire spool, gap filer, epoxies, led lights, tape, paints (acrylics, spray paint), wire, metal brackets, lights, glue, first generation Micro Machine Star Wars figurines, screws, canvas, Lego parts, hobby model parts, faucet and other random parts bought at Home Depot.

Story behind this scene: The Duel on Cloud City was a lightsaber duel that took place between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, during the Galactic Civil War. The inexperienced Skywalker was ultimately outmatched against Vader and was defeated, losing his hand in the process. At the end of the battle, Vader revealed to Skywalker that he was, in fact, Luke’s own father—Anakin Skywalker.

Making his way through the catwalks and elevators of the Cloud City Core, he eventually reached the darkened Carbon-Freezing Chamber. Suddenly, the chamber became illuminated, revealing Darth Vader, standing atop a flight of steps to the walkway above. Vader taunted Skywalker, claiming that, while the Force was with him, the boy was no Jedi. Striding up to the Sith Lord, Skywalker ignited his lightsaber. Vader responded by calmly activating his own weapon, and the battle began.

Below are more pics and some of the creation in the process.  Enjoy.

Star Wars – Empire Strikes Back – Dagoba Miniature Diorama

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back

by AMORart

Amor Art

Scene: When Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing fighter jet crashes into the swamps of Dagoba.

Characters: Obi Wan Kenobi, R2D2, Luke Skywalker, and Yoda.

AMorArt Star Wars Dagoba Diorama

Materials Used:

Caulking, Canvas, Wood, moss, glues, paints, acrylics, epoxy, wires, light hub, LED lights, led, hose, putty, newspaper, paper mache clumps, enamel, clear acrylic sealer, waterproof sealer, dry ice, CPU fan, casting cloth, water, food coloring, spray paint, branches, and of course authentic Star Wars miniature figurines.

From start to finish took 4 weeks, with minimal work done during the week to allow drying of paints, glues, and materials, and the bulk on weekends.  These are miniature figurines from the 80’s that I had and as an adult no longer play with them, so I thought it would be great to give them a permanent home on display.

Total Cost in Materials: $281.00 between Hobby Shops and Michael’s, even some restocking of common materials at Target.
